10-20 hours a week 1 Saturday a month This position is an indirect service provider helping to maintain the availability of library materials by shelving books and other materials, reading the shelves and organizing materials into their proper sequence, and assisting with library programs. Essential Duties: ● Projects a positive and pleasant attitude to the public and cooperates and maintains an effective relationship with other staff members as part of a team. ● Discharges, sorts, and processes materials following established procedures; pulls and processes holds; prepares items for courier shipment to other libraries; organizes carts based on shelving rules; shelves materials according to established standards; contributes to discussions on the development of a more efficient materials handling system for the library. ● Shelves material based on location; prioritizes workload with an emphasis on shelving carts and accuracy; participates in discussions about workflow efficiencies. ● Locates requested items. ● Completes shelf reading and/or inventory assignments with a high level of accuracy; merchandises the collection through displays, face-outs, and shifting materials; completes opening and closing procedures; discharges materials. Great Bend Public Library - Library Page 1 ● Assists staff with checking materials for damage and removing them from the shelves. ● Adheres to library policies and procedures. ● Assists with preparation of craft programs, and decorating for programs and events ● Assists during library programs as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, or Experience
Minimum Job Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to learn the Dewey Decimal system; must be able to work independently, cooperatively and collaboratively. Required to work at least one night a week and as part of a weekend rotation. Must have access to transportation for performing job responsibilities required.
