Job Title: Director Organization: Great Bend Economic Development (GBED) Location: Great Bend, Kansas Reports To: GBED Executive Board Salary Range: $70,000–$100,000, commensurate with experience Position Overview The Director of GBED serves as the lead strategist for economic development in Great Bend, responsible for attracting and supporting businesses, managing development projects, leading the city’s Main Street program, and aligning workforce and community priorities. This highly collaborative role works closely with public and private partners to build a strong, resilient local economy. Key Responsibilities The Director drives business recruitment and retention efforts, oversees small business support programs, and leads events that promote entrepreneurship and local investment. They manage the Main Street program and lead downtown revitalization through property activation, historic preservation, and grant leveraging. The role includes close coordination with workforce partners to align talent pipelines with employer needs, while championing solutions in areas like childcare and broadband access. The Director guides major development projects from concept through completion, including grant applications, incentive packaging, and stakeholder coordination. Organizational duties include budget management, staff supervision, public communication, and regular reporting to the GBED Board. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, or Experience
Qualifications Minimum: 3+ years of experience in economic development, real estate, or related fields, with project management and supervisory experience. Strong public speaking and relationship-building skills. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a related field, CEcD certification, familiarity with Kansas tools (TIF, IRBs, CIDs, revolving loan funds), and experience in rural or micropolitan settings.
