Description
Purpose: The School/Community Coordinator works primarily, but not exclusively, with students, faculty, and parents to provide awareness and education about the prevalence and effects of personal safety awareness; assists and supports primary and secondary adult and child victims/survivors; promotes trust and communication during crisis, as well as provides support services to help them stabilize their lives after victimization. The School/Community advocate facilitates community engagement and education through community outreach. RESPONSIBILITIES INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: A. Responsible for creating a culture of empowerment and trauma-informed service delivery. B. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of resources and services available in the communities served to assist survivors. C. Responsible to network with medical professionals, court officers, school personnel, law enforcement, clergy, and other professionals to encourage referrals. D. Responsible for facilitating community awareness and education, while creating community networks E. Responsible for coordinating with school personnel to schedule all Safe Dates & In Their Shoes lessons F. Responsible for updating and maintaining the Safe Dates curriculum G. Responsible for coordinating with LEO and DCF to provide educational lessons to the schools H. Responsible for maintaining contact with the school districts we serve by reaching out on a regular basis. I. Responsible for keeping track and filing all of the educational lessons we provide. J. Responsible for teaching educational lessons in the Safe Dates & In Their Shoes curriculum K. Setting up and updating MOU’s with all schools for data analysis L. Assist with any other duties and attend meetings as requested by the Executive Director. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS and ABILITIES: · Higher education preferred. High school degree or GED equivalent required. · Experience in child abuse, domestic violence or sexual assault field, volunteer experience, or related experience is suggested. · Clear understanding of confidentiality. · Ability to work independently and as a team. · Knowledge and understanding of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault issues and trends. · Knowledge of child development, parenting skills, parent/child bonding, and engaging children through activities individually and as a group. · Knowledge of service area resources preferred. · Knowledge of computer/internet programs to include Word, Excel, Outlook and Google. · Express commitment to the empowerment of women and children. · Experience working with diverse people and groups. · Experience maintaining personal/professional boundaries and managing stress constructively. · Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. · Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; ability to handle multiple priorities. · Manage and resolve conflict. · Excellent initiative, integrity, and strong sense of professionalism. · Possess valid Kansas driver’s license, clean driving record, access to reliable transportation, & proof of current liability insurance. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: · Convey detailed and/or important instructions or ideas accurately, audibly, and quickly. · Hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information. · Manual dexterity and able to use wrists, hands and/or fingers in repetitive motion. · Prepare and/or inspect documents and communications on computer or on paper. · Sitting for extended periods of time. · Bending, lifting, and carrying up to 40 pounds (donations/small children). WORK SCHEDULE 40 hours per week, non-exempt On-call roataion Varied work schedule to accommodate activities. MILEAGE AND EXPENSES: Mileage and expenses shall be reimbursed as per Policy and Procedure manual. This position is grant funded. Additional health insurance coverage is available for families at a cost to the employee. *This agency is not eligible for Unemployment. *All matters concerning the Family Crisis Center and the clients are to be kept in strictest confidence. This position will require you to be able to Pass both an extensive background check as well as a drug screening.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, or Experience
This position does not require any previous experience, however experience in a similar field is recommended.
