Description
The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse to assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures. Participates in the delivery of safe and effective care to the patient during the intraoperative period. Ensures operating suite is adequately prepared for the procedure. Monitors PAR level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Participates in the cleaning and sterilization of the surgical instrumentation. Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities. Effectively interacts with patients and health care team members, while maintaining Surgical Services Department standards. Position requires full range of motion including; bending, stooping, lifting, reaching, good hand-eye coordination, as well as standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Normal corrected vision and hearing are required. Require the ability to work under conditions of colder temperatures is required in the performance of duties. Work requires prolonged walking and standing. Frequently lifts and positions patients with the assistance of other personnel.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, or Experience
Must possess a minimum of one year current operating room experience (student experience allowed) and the ability to understand and react effectively to the unique needs and care for all patient populations (i.e., neonatal, pediatrics, adolescents, and geriatrics). BLS required. Graduation of an accredited school or Surgical Technology Program and/or Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists preferred
