JOB SUMMARY: The CRT is specially trained and experienced in the field of respiratory care and is qualified to perform the necessary therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as ordered by the attending physician. These procedures pertain to the care of the patients with abnormalities and deficiencies associated with respiration. The Therapist is responsible to Chief Operations Officer, Medical Director and President/CEO of CBH. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Therapist will be responsible for performing all modalities of respiratory care offered at Clara Barton Hospital. 2. Read and evaluate physicians’ orders and patients’ chart information to determine patients’ condition and treatment protocols. 3. Keep records of patients’ therapy, completing all necessary forms. 4. Assess patients in clinical setting. 5. Assess patients’ response to treatments and modify treatments according to protocol if necessary. 6. Explain treatment procedures to patients. 7. Set up equipment controls to regulate the flow of oxygen, gases or aerosols. 8. Notify physician of change in patient status, or clarify an incomplete or unclear order. 9. Perform the daily work routine including: oxygen rounds, therapy, daily charges, charting, and pulmonary function tests. 10. Clean, sterilize, check and maintain respiratory therapy equipment. 11. Follow and enforce safety rules applying to equipment. 12. Perform data input into Oracle Health system regarding patient care. 13. Provides oversight of other Respiratory staff 14. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, or Experience
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Must be duly licensed or credentialed under applicable Kansas state laws as a Certified Respiratory Therapy and; 2. Graduate of an accredited certified respiratory therapy program. 3. Requires current ACLS and PALS certification. KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Required to understand the purpose, expected response, side effects and proper dosages of respiratory medications. 2. Understand the results of arterial blood gas determinations 3. Able to make appropriate decisions based on those results. 4. Understand basic pulmonary function values 5. General knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory and pulmonary systems 6. Understand the indications and contraindications of the respiratory therapy modalities 7. Understand airway management of the adult, child and infant 8. Maintain minimum certification in CPR and ACLS 9. Be proficient in emergent situations 10. Able to perform all special diagnostic procedures 11. Ability to convey information in a simple way that all staff can understand. 12. Ability to communicate information both oral and written 13. Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense 14. Ability to work computer system in efficient manner and use computer software such as Microsoft Office and Oracle Health 15. Ability to organize, plan, prioritize work duties and develop specific goals and plans to accomplish your work.
