RADIOLOGY TECHNOLOGIST/MAMMOGRAPHER

Description

PURPOSE Under the direct supervision of the Director of Radiology and under the general supervision of the Radiologist, performs radiographic procedures, CT scans and mammograms to assist in a diagnosis of disease and injuries. The Radiologic Technologist works effectively with patients and patients’ families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Performs radiographic procedures, CT scans and mammograms as prescribed by a physician or mid level provider. 2. Determines proper techniques through the selection of voltage, current, and exposure time 3. Positions patients for the proper view of the affected area 4. Instructs patients as to the proper physiological requirements for the procedure 5. Assists physician with special procedures in radiology, CT, or mammography 6. Prepares contrast media and administers to patients either intravenously or through other body cavities 7. Maintains technique charts 8. Operates portable radiographic equipment for the performance of procedures throughout the hospital, including the cardiac care unit, recovery room and the emergency room. 9. Operates necessary computer equipment for CR, PAC’s/PAC’s Cube, & teleradiology. 10. Monitors the operation of the equipment 11. Contacts nursing stations to verify patient schedules, medications, and special requirements or restrictions 12. Assesses the patient’s condition prior to administering a contrast media or performing the radiographic procedure 13. Charts patient’s medications and completes x-ray requests in Cerner 14. Ensures that any required consent forms are signed prior to the examination/procedure 15. Actively participates in the quality-assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department. 16. Prepares all images so they can be read by the Radiologist 17. Schedules patients for exams 18. Enhances self-growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, or workshops. 19. Office duties, which includes completion of all necessary paperwork 20. In mammography must follow standards set by the ACR/MQSA 21. Will report to the lead mammographer with any questions or concerns dealing with mammography.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, or Experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a registered Radiologic Technologist or registry eligible, as well as licensed with the State of Kansas. Must also be registered in Mammography or registry eligible. Willingness to work with realization that error may have serious consequences for patients, and to work with a variety of types of patients many of whom are in disturbed conditions. Must have tact and sympathy in dealing with patients and alertness to detect conditions dangerous to patient or personnel. Will work under general supervision adhering closely to established procedures. Must be able to learn the Cerner computer system to be able to input patient information
