Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Streets Supervisor, this position performs seasonal work for the City of Great Bend’s Streets Department. Duties include assisting with concrete and asphalt repair, working at the compost site, and helping to maintain the city’s levee system. This role supports various public works projects to ensure safe and efficient operations of city infrastructure. This position is temporary and FLSA non-exempt. A. Job Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assist with pouring, finishing, and repairing concrete, such as roads, sidewalks, curb and gutter. 2. Assists with laying asphalt and pothole patching. 3. Operate hand tools, small equipment, and machinery necessary for streets and public works projects. 4. Support maintenance and operations at the compost site, including screening, burning, moving material and general upkeep of the area. 5. Perform maintenance work on the city levee system to ensure compliance. 6. Safely load, unload, and transport materials and equipment as needed for various job sites. 7. Keep work areas clean and organized; ensure proper disposal of debris and waste materials. 8. Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate protective gear while performing duties. 9. Assists with other tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and communicate the same to staff. Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply basic math concepts related to construction such as fractions, percentages, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to recognize, mitigate, and correct unsafe conditions. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a minimum of a Class C driver’s license, Class B CDL preferred, and have a satisfactory driving record. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear in person or on the telephone. Hearing is occasionally required for equipment operation analysis. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environmental characteristics described here are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; traffic; fumes or airborne particles; and outdoor weather conditions; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; construction project site conditions; extreme heat; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is frequently noisy.
