Job Duties and Responsibilities: I. Under the direction of the Deputy City Clerk and/or City Clerk/Finance Director, performs a variety of accounting and clerical responsibilities related to accounts payable and financial policies of the City of Great Bend. A. Processes and maintains accounts payable claims and records for all city departments. B. As a part of the front office staff at City Hall, this person will help answer the telephone and field questions, concerns, and complaints from the general public and city employees. C. Helps resolve routine departmental and citizen inquiries regarding all areas of responsibility. D. Assists Deputy City Clerk in the maintenance of license procedures, including answering inquiries, insurance compliance, and annual renewals. E. Prepares billing for certain services, maintains necessary controls and records, and conducts routine collection procedures. F. Receives and processes cash due to the City. G. Types letters and documents as requested. H. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required. Qualifications: I. Knowledge of proper fiscal accounting and recordkeeping procedures. II. Knowledge of modern office methods and equipment. III. Thorough working knowledge of computers and software applications, including billing system, word processing, excel spreadsheets, etc. IV. Good working knowledge of English, spelling, grammar, and math. V. This position demands exceptional attention to detail. VI. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, determine priorities, recall directions and details, and follow-through to complete essential functions. VII. Ability to communicate effectively with the public and staff in verbal and written formats. VIII. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written directions. IX. Ability to make decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and established policies. X. Ability to maintain confidentiality. XI. Must exercise considerable tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public and other City employees.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, or Experience

Associate degree in accounting, accounts payable, or related field preferred. In lieu of a degree, a high school diploma or equivalent with 3 years computerized accounts payable related experience is required.
