Heartland Credit Union is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. This person will play a key role maintaining reporting and control of the credit union's accounting system to ensure an accurate reflection of its financial position. Learn more about Heartland Credit Union by going to www.hcu.coop. WORK DETAILS Office hours, Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Located at our Support Center, 4000 N Monroe in Hutchinson, KS. ABOUT THIS SENIOR ACCOUNTANT POSITION The successful candidate will be responsible for the following activities: Ensures accounting functions are performed according to established procedures and applicable regulations. Prepares financial statements including balance sheets, profit, loss and subsidiary statements. Prepares accurate consolidated monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, profit, loss and subsidiary statements by collecting, analyzing and summarizing relevant information. Identifies any discrepancies, investigates cause and collaborates with relevant departments to ensure information accuracy. Collaborates with various departments to maintain accurate and timely general ledger reconciliations. Performs variance analysis of monthly financial data. Leads the month-end close process, including intercompany eliminations and consolidations. Monitors financial performance against historical and budgeted results, identifying and resolving variances. Continuously seeks process improvements. Prepares and/or reviews regulatory and governmental reports, ensuring accurate representation of the credit union's financial position. Researches and interprets new accounting regulations, determining their impact on the credit union. Assists management in updating accounting policies and procedures in response to regulatory changes, ensuring thorough review and feedback before final approval. Supports budget preparation and financial analysis, monitoring costs and expenses. Keeps senior management informed of area activities and of any significant problems. Provides suggestions and input for policy/procedure changes, improvement of department processes and effectiveness. Completes required reports and related documents promptly and accurately. Ensures reports are made and submitted according to established regulations and deadlines. Pro-actively supports and advances HCU's brand and culture. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SENIOR ACCOUNTANT Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience. CPA preferred but not required Three to five years of accounting experience preferred Ability to assist others, establish and maintain effective working relationships across all departments and business units. Well-organized and attentive to detail. Able to meet deadlines and manage projects Strong problem solving and analytical skills Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook and related programs. Flexible and open to change.
